The
only ethics and practice guide for criminal defense lawyers is Professional
Responsibility in Criminal Defense Practice was published by Thomson-West
in July 2005. It is renamed and the third edition of Professional
Responsibility of the Criminal Defense Lawyer (2d ed. 1996). NACDL
members can get 20% off by linking through NACDL's website.The first edition was published in 1987 by Lawyer's Co-operative Publishing Co. of Rochester, NY, which also published the Second Edition in 1996. LCP later merged into Thomson-West. This treatise does not follow the tradition of ethics books. It is not dry and ponderous. It written for criminal defense lawyers by a criminal defense lawyer with nearly 33 years active criminal trial experience. It is more practice oriented than any legal ethics book on the market, and it is intended to be thought-provoking and keep criminal defense lawyers out of ethical trouble.
